My Inspirations and Process, It's Technical!

This question has stumped me sometimes. When asked there are so many things that inspire me to create. When I think of inspiration for my current work, its authors like Edith Wharton who wrote "The Age of Innocence", artists like John Singer Sergeant who painted portraits of rich elites, and stories on film like Pride and Prejudice. Romance is the heart of what I want to capture with my camera.

I was having a conversation with my friend yesterday about what we think about when creating our art. The technical aspects of what we are doing. We both were at art school at the same time, Mass Art. She reminded me that the education was technical oriented, something I had forgotten. So a lot of my thoughts while creating are about what's working visually and what's not.

For example when I make a final edit of a photo of a still life, my focus is the light hitting the objects in frame. Is the light to0 much or too little. Is the color to bright or not bright enough. In my drawing, it's shading. Are the marks too smooth or too rough? Does the direction of the light source make sense in the drawing? Are the lines too close, or too far away in relation to one another? My brain can go on overload with ideas or when trying to solve a problem. So I try to focus on one thing at a time and somehow it comes together in the end.
